Bihar is set to unveil a comprehensive artificial intelligence (AI) policy in the near future, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced on Tuesday. The policy is designed to foster technological advancement, create employment opportunities, and enhance governance across the state.
Key Highlights of the AI Policy
Speaking at a technology summit in Patna, Choudhary emphasized that the AI policy will focus on sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, and public administration. The government aims to leverage AI to improve service delivery and decision-making processes.
Job Creation and Skill Development
The policy includes provisions for skill development programs to equip the youth with AI-related competencies. Choudhary stated that the initiative will generate thousands of jobs in the technology sector, particularly for software developers, data analysts, and AI specialists.
Collaboration with Startups and Academia
Bihar plans to collaborate with startups, research institutions, and universities to drive AI innovation. The government will establish innovation hubs and provide funding for AI research projects. Choudhary invited tech companies to invest in Bihar, highlighting the state's young demographic and growing digital infrastructure.
Implementation and Timeline
The policy is expected to be rolled out within the next three months after consultation with stakeholders. A dedicated AI task force will monitor its implementation. The state government has allocated an initial budget of INR 500 crore for the first phase.
Choudhary also noted that Bihar is working on data privacy and security frameworks to ensure ethical use of AI. The policy aligns with the national AI strategy and aims to position Bihar as a hub for AI-driven development in eastern India.
Industry experts have welcomed the move, stating that it could accelerate digital transformation in the state. The announcement comes amid growing interest in AI across Indian states, with several others having already launched similar policies.
