Global AI Declaration Adopted at India Summit with Massive Investment Commitments
In a landmark move for international cooperation on artificial intelligence, eighty-six countries and two international organizations have formally signed the AI Impact Summit declaration. This significant step signals broad global support for shared principles focused on responsible and inclusive AI development, as announced by IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday.
Summit Outcomes and Signatory Nations
The declaration was adopted at the conclusion of the India AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi, with signatories including major global powers such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, China, Denmark, and Germany. Minister Vaishnaw highlighted that participating nations have formalized principles centered on the "welfare of all, and happiness of all", reflecting a collective commitment to democratizing AI resources.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi's human-centric AI vision has been accepted by the world. Democratising Artificial Intelligence resources so AI facilities, services and technology can reach everyone in society has been accepted by all," Vaishnaw stated during a press briefing.
Core Principles and Framework Emphasis
The minister elaborated that the framework emphasizes balancing economic growth with broader societal goals, ensuring that social harmony is maintained alongside technological advancement. "Not just economic growth, even social harmony has to be kept in mind. Safety and trust are at the centre, they have been brought among the main points," he said, adding that efforts are concentrated on building a secure, trustworthy, and robust AI ecosystem.
Key areas identified for international cooperation include innovation and the development of human capital. Vaishnaw noted, "For all these areas, all countries have agreed to work together. Almost all countries that participated, including the US, the UK, Canada, China, Denmark, Egypt, Indonesia, and Germany... everyone has participated."
Investment and Visitor Engagement Highlights
The AI Impact Summit secured investment commitments exceeding $250 billion in infrastructure, which Vaishnaw described as a "grand success" in previous statements. Additionally, participation at the event crossed five lakh visitors, reflecting strong domestic and global engagement with India's artificial intelligence initiatives.
"More than five lakh visitors participated in the exhibition, learnt a lot, and interacted with many experts from around the world. We had practically every major AI player in the world participating in large numbers. We had so many startups getting the opportunity to showcase their work. Overall, the quality of the discussion was phenomenal," the minister remarked.
Global Participation and Discussion Themes
The summit brought together global policymakers, industry leaders, and technology experts, positioning India as a crucial player in discussions on international AI governance and infrastructure development. Investment pledges included about $20 billion in venture capital and deep-tech investments, underscoring global confidence in India's role in the emerging AI ecosystem.
Notable participants included global technology leaders such as Google CEO Sundar Pichai, OpenAI chief Sam Altman, Microsoft vice-chair Brad Smith, and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. Discussions covered a wide range of topics, including AI opportunities and risks, artificial general intelligence, governance frameworks, and the future of jobs.
Vaishnaw added that participation across ministerial dialogues, leaders' plenaries, and inaugural sessions reflected high-quality engagement throughout the summit, further solidifying its impact on the global AI landscape.
