Kazakhstan President Approves AI Integration in Schools by 2026

ASTANA: Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed a new decree to integrate artificial intelligence into the country's secondary education system. The initiative aims to modernize education and strengthen human capital development as AI technologies advance globally, according to Kazinform News Agency.

Action Plan and Timeline

The decree directs the Kazakh government to prepare a comprehensive action plan by July 1, 2026, for nationwide AI adoption in schools from 2026 to 2029. The roadmap focuses on personalized learning systems, expanding digital infrastructure, teacher training, and protecting student data. Renowned AI expert Kai-Fu Lee, a member of Kazakhstan's Council for the Development of Artificial Intelligence, will guide the reforms and shape the long-term AI education strategy.

Pilot Project and Expansion

By June 1, 2026, the government must submit proposals for a pilot project in selected secondary schools. If successful, the program will expand nationwide. Schools in the pilot must be equipped with required technology, including high-speed internet, by August 1, 2026. Official standards for AI use in secondary education are to be finalized by September 1, 2026.

Teacher Training and Role of AI

A separate plan by September 2026 will provide continuous AI training for educators, ensuring AI serves as a supportive tool rather than replacing teachers. The decree will be published in the national press.

Kazakhstan recently launched its first free AI-powered platform to help students prepare for the SAT exam.
