Lucknow: King George’s Medical University (KGMU) has initiated a new diagnostic facility for detecting complex lung diseases using C-arm guided radial endobronchial ultrasound. This advanced procedure is expected to benefit approximately 400 to 500 patients each month.
Overcoming Limitations of Conventional Methods
Previously, doctors relied on conventional bronchoscopy and CT-guided biopsy, which had limitations in accessing small or deep lung lesions. The new technique overcomes these challenges by allowing precise visualization and biopsy of hard-to-reach areas.
First Government Institute in the State
Dr. Darshan Bajaj, a faculty member in the Department of Respiratory Medicine at KGMU, stated that the university is the first government institute in Uttar Pradesh to offer this procedure. “The technique helps identify small and deep-seated lung nodules and suspicious lesions and allows precise biopsy for diagnosis,” he explained.
Safety Protocols and Protective Measures
The procedure involves imaging support that uses controlled radiation, and strict safety protocols are being followed. Dr. Bajaj added that additional protective measures, including thyroid shields and specialized headgear, are being planned to ensure the safety of both patients and medical staff.
This new facility marks a significant advancement in respiratory care at KGMU, providing patients with access to state-of-the-art diagnostic technology without the need to travel to private or out-of-state hospitals.
