Nasscom President Confidently Dismisses AI Job Elimination Fears

In a strong rebuttal to growing market anxieties, Nasscom President Rajesh Nambiar has categorically dismissed fears that artificial intelligence tools will eliminate technology services jobs. This statement comes despite significant market concerns that have wiped out approximately $50 billion from Indian IT companies' market value since 2025.

Essential Role of IT Services in Complex Enterprise Environments

Nambiar emphasized that the complex technology needs and stringent regulatory requirements of large enterprises make IT services fundamentally essential, even as AI adoption continues to accelerate across industries. "Concerns that such tools, whether it is Claude Cowork or something else, will eliminate technology services are strongly wrong," Nambiar told Economic Times, highlighting the vital role IT companies play in managing and maintaining enterprise systems.

While financial analysts predict that AI tools like Anthropic's Cowork plugins and Palantir's ERP software could potentially reduce revenue growth by 2% annually over the next few years, Nambiar maintains an optimistic outlook. He believes the $283 billion Indian IT industry possesses the resilience and adaptability to successfully navigate this technological transition.

Strategic Shift from System Integrators to AI Orchestration Partners

Nambiar explained that IT service companies need to strategically evolve from being traditional system integrators to becoming AI orchestration partners. Their enduring value proposition stems from deep enterprise knowledge and operational expertise, which becomes increasingly important as AI tools become more commonplace in business environments.

"Tech adoption among enterprises is moving from experimentation to large-scale deployment. When they do, service companies will play a critical role in making sure that they can help these companies make the transition," Nambiar elaborated. Companies that have proactively invested in robust platforms, skilled personnel, and strategic partnerships with global corporations are better positioned to succeed in this evolving landscape.

India's Competitive Advantages in the AI Transition

India's substantial talent pool gives the nation a significant competitive advantage during this technological transition, according to Nambiar. The country's extensive reservoir of skilled professionals provides a solid foundation for IT companies to adapt their service offerings and maintain their global leadership position.

Addressing concerns about US H-1B visa interviews and potential immigration challenges, Nambiar remained optimistic about the industry's capacity. He noted that Indian IT companies have developed sufficient local capacity within the United States to handle their operational needs effectively, reducing dependency on visa-based staffing models.

Upcoming Industry Review and Strategic Forum

Nasscom is preparing to share its comprehensive yearly strategic review at the upcoming Technology and Leadership Forum scheduled for February. This important industry event will provide a detailed platform for discussing these transformative trends, exploring adaptation strategies, and charting the future course for India's technology services sector.

The organization's leadership remains confident that while AI will undoubtedly transform certain aspects of technology services, it will simultaneously create new opportunities and demand for specialized skills that the Indian IT industry is well-positioned to provide.
