Introduction
The story of Moses parting the Red Sea is a well-known tale from the Book of Exodus, describing the Israelites' escape from slavery in Egypt. While Moses is remembered as a brave savior, a recent viral video has shocked many, showing an African pastor attempting to replicate the miracle.
The Viral Video
In the video, the pastor, dressed in a white robe, asks his followers to read from the Holy Bible as he ventures into the sea with a stick in hand. He runs toward the incoming waves while one follower reads Bible verses on his knees. However, the pastor quickly turns back and tries to escape as the waves crash over him, ultimately abandoning the attempt and fleeing in fear.
Social Media Reactions
The video quickly gained traction online, drawing mixed reactions. One Facebook user wrote, "He started off like Moses, but almost ended up like Pharaoh." Another commented, "Fact that he tried... Even Moses didn't know till it was revealed to him. There is a difference between a prophet, a scientist, and a magician." On X, one user claimed, "Not a priest, but a group of teenagers intellectually and humanely... they do not know that God is the Self-Sufficient Master of His servants." Another questioned, "Why doesn't he try the miracle of our master Jonah and have the whale swallow him, maybe it'll work out for him."
The Biblical Account
According to the Book of Exodus, Moses, trapped at the Red Sea by Pharaoh's army, stretched out his staff at God's command. A strong wind blew all night, parting the waters and creating a dry path for the Israelites. When the Egyptian army followed, God caused their chariots to get stuck. Once the Israelites crossed, Moses lowered his staff, and the walls of water crashed down, destroying the entire Egyptian army.
