Rourkela Police Launches High-Tech Control Room

In a significant leap towards smart policing, the Rourkela Police Commissionerate has launched a cutting-edge Integrated Control Room that promises to transform urban surveillance and crime prevention in the Steel City.

The state-of-the-art facility, inaugurated by Director General of Police Arun Kumar Sarangi, represents a major technological upgrade for law enforcement in Odisha. This strategic initiative aims to create a safer urban environment through comprehensive digital monitoring and rapid response capabilities.

Comprehensive Surveillance Network

The newly operational control room integrates an extensive network of over 700 CCTV cameras strategically positioned across Rourkela. These cameras provide blanket coverage of critical locations including major intersections, market areas, public spaces, and sensitive installations.

What sets this system apart is its intelligent monitoring capabilities:

  • 24/7 real-time surveillance and monitoring
  • Advanced video analytics powered by artificial intelligence
  • Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) systems
  • Facial recognition technology for enhanced security
  • Seamless integration with existing police infrastructure

Multi-Agency Coordination Hub

The control room serves as a central nerve center for multiple emergency services. Beyond conventional policing functions, it coordinates with fire services, disaster management teams, and other first responders to ensure comprehensive public safety coverage.

Police Commissioner K. Siva Subramani emphasized that the facility will enable "proactive crime prevention and swift response to emergencies" through its integrated approach to urban security management.

Technological Edge in Crime Fighting

The system incorporates several advanced features that give Rourkela Police a significant technological advantage:

  1. Real-time traffic monitoring and management
  2. Quick response coordination for law and order situations
  3. Digital evidence collection and analysis
  4. Data-driven policing strategies
  5. Enhanced investigative capabilities through video forensics

This initiative aligns with the Odisha government's vision of creating smart, safe cities equipped with modern technological infrastructure to serve citizens better and combat crime effectively.
