Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retired) inaugurated an AI Theme Room and flagged off the AI on Wheels mobile laboratory at Lok Bhavan in Dehradun on Wednesday. These initiatives are part of the state's efforts to expand access to artificial intelligence education.
AI Theme Room: A Hub for Innovation
The AI Theme Room, developed at Lok Bhavan, is equipped with robotics, IoT devices, and advanced computing infrastructure. Officials stated that it will function as an innovation center where students and researchers can learn, experiment, and develop technology-driven solutions to real-world problems.
AI on Wheels: Reaching Remote Areas
The mobile laboratory will travel across remote villages and hilly regions of Uttarakhand to provide technology education to students who lack access to such facilities. This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide and bring AI learning to underserved communities.
Governor Singh emphasized the importance of technological sovereignty, stating, "Technological sovereignty will be the greatest strength of a developed India." He urged young people to become creators, not just consumers, of technology.
Operational Details and Impact
The initiatives were developed by young innovators from Techno Hub Engineering, led by Siddharth Madhav. During the event, a live robotics demonstration featured robots distributing souvenirs to children, drawing applause from the audience.
Officials confirmed that both initiatives are part of Operation Kalki, a statewide program that has covered all 13 districts of Uttarakhand. The program engaged government school students in sessions on AI and innovation, and saw students pitch 108 app ideas related to agriculture, tourism, education, and public services.
These efforts underscore Uttarakhand's commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and preparing students for a technology-driven future. The AI Theme Room and mobile lab are expected to significantly enhance AI literacy and practical skills among students across the state.
