Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Tuesday that he met with the CEO of Palantir, a leading artificial intelligence firm, in Kyiv. Palantir has become increasingly prominent in the United States military and is playing a key role in the AI arms race between Ukraine and Russia.
Meeting Highlights
In a statement on social media, Zelensky said, "There certainly are areas where we can be useful to one another, strengthening the defence of Ukraine, America, and our partners." He added that they discussed technological development for both combat operations and civilian needs.
Ukraine Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov also met with Palantir CEO Alex Karp separately. Fedorov stated that the two parties aimed to deepen their cooperation. "During the meeting, we showed the Palantir team how Ukraine protects its skies, holds back the enemy at the front, and strikes at the Russian economy," Fedorov said in a statement.
Background of Cooperation
Fedorov noted that Karp first visited Ukraine in June 2022, shortly after Russia's invasion. "Our goal is to deepen our partnership with Palantir on AI solutions and defence tech projects that provide Ukraine with a technological edge," Fedorov added.
AI Arms Race
Both Russia and Ukraine have been racing to expand artificial intelligence tools on the battlefield, part of a wider global AI arms race. US company Palantir has positioned itself as a dominant player in this field. The conflict has spurred innovation in weapons, particularly drones, which have proliferated on both sides of the front line.
