Bengaluru Woman Discovers Cousin Created AI-Generated Explicit Images
A 24-year-old private firm employee from Bengaluru received a shocking revelation when her cousin's wife sent her photographs on WhatsApp. The images, which were originally innocent, had been morphed into nude and sexually explicit visuals using artificial intelligence tools.
Disturbing Discovery and Police Complaint
Pavani (name changed), a resident of Basaveshwaranagar, immediately filed a formal police complaint against her cousin Rahul (name changed), who is the son of her paternal uncle. The incident came to light on March 7 when Pavani received the manipulated images through the messaging platform.
Upon confronting Rahul's wife about the disturbing content, Pavani learned the truth. The wife revealed that her husband had been secretly misusing Pavani's photographs to create AI-generated explicit material without her knowledge or consent.
Elaborate Scheme Uncovered
Investigations revealed that Rahul had allegedly created a fake Facebook account using Pavani's name. On this fraudulent profile, he posted the morphed images and made obscene comments on them. Furthermore, he circulated these manipulated photographs among unknown individuals through Facebook Messenger, amplifying the damage and violation.
The situation escalated when Rahul's wife made additional allegations. She claimed that her husband had engaged in similar predatory behavior using photographs of other women, including some of his colleagues. This pattern suggested a broader scheme of digital harassment and exploitation.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
Bengaluru police have registered a formal case under multiple legal provisions. The charges include violations of the Information Technology Act along with specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The case has been filed under:
- BNS Section 75: Pertaining to sexual harassment
- BNS Section 79: Addressing acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman
A senior police officer confirmed that investigations are actively underway to gather evidence and determine the full extent of the misconduct. The case highlights growing concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence technology for creating non-consensual intimate imagery and digital harassment.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers posed by AI tools when used maliciously, and the importance of robust legal frameworks to address such emerging forms of cybercrime and digital violation.
