The Ahmedabad Zonal Unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence carried out two separate operations leading to the seizure of counterfeit cigarettes and narcotics. In the first operation, officials confiscated 82.8 lakh sticks of counterfeit cigarettes valued at Rs 19.8 crore on April 28. Acting on specific intelligence, a container imported from Singapore at Mundra port was intercepted. The container, destined for Dadri ACPI CFS, had its goods declared as toilet tissue. However, upon examination, the consignment was found to contain counterfeit foreign-origin cigarettes. Since no bill of entry was filed, the goods were seized under the Customs Act, 1962.
Second Operation: Drug Seizure
In the second case, DRI officials intercepted a woman traveling from Delhi to Mumbai on the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Dadar Western Special Express at Surat Railway Station on April 29. A search of her two trolley bags revealed 6.32 kg of methamphetamine worth Rs 6.32 crore. The drugs were cleverly concealed in specially made cavities inside two laptop bags, gift-wrapped in a shoe box, and hidden within layers of new shirts. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine. The narcotics were seized under the NDPS Act, and the passenger was taken into custody.
