Massive G20-Style Security Blanket for AI Impact Summit in Delhi
New Delhi is implementing a security apparatus reminiscent of the G20 summit for the upcoming five-day Artificial Intelligence Impact Summit, commencing Monday at the Bharat Mandapam. Authorities are deploying extensive measures, including anti-drone systems, thousands of police personnel, and advanced surveillance technology to ensure the event's safety.
Advanced Air Defense and Surveillance Systems
A robust air defense setup will safeguard the venue, featuring five anti-drone systems designed to detect, track, and neutralize drones in real-time. Multiple air defense guns will also be positioned, mirroring the security arrangements used during the world leaders' G20 summit at the same location in September 2023.
The Bharat Mandapam will be equipped with over 500 CCTV cameras, most incorporating advanced video analytics. These include facial recognition technology linked to a comprehensive criminal database and an automatic number plate recognition system integrated with records of stolen or suspicious vehicles. Additional capabilities such as intrusion detection and suspect object identification are being integrated to enhance overall security.
Inside the venue, a mini control room will be established to monitor suspicious activities. This facility will have control over all CCTV feeds and can directly alert police personnel, enabling immediate intervention if necessary.
Comprehensive Ground Security and Emergency Preparedness
The security plan includes 20-25 anti-sabotage teams, along with bomb detection and disposal squads, conducting continuous sweeps of the site and surrounding areas. These teams are already inspecting every nook and cranny to identify and neutralize potential threats.
For disaster management, five teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will be deployed, with two additional teams kept in reserve to address any emergencies.
To prevent protests or demonstrations near the venue, twenty-five teams equipped with wireless sets and buses will coordinate efforts. They are tasked with immediately reaching any gathering spot and detaining protesters to maintain order.
Hotel Security and Traffic Management
Guests attending the summit will be accommodated at ten hotels in and around the city. Each hotel will be under the supervision of a senior Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP)-rank officer, responsible for overseeing all security arrangements.
"To support the officer, a team of approximately 100 personnel will be deployed at each hotel. This staff will manage entry and exit points and monitor guest movements," a source revealed.
With the event coinciding with school examinations, police have been instructed to assist students who may encounter congestion or roadblocks. "If students risk being late for their exams, cops will take steps to transport them safely and promptly to their respective examination centers. Nodal officers have been appointed to ensure smooth coordination and effective management of such situations," a senior officer stated.
Around 5,000 traffic police personnel will be deployed to manage the high-security arrangements. Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dinesh Gupta confirmed that 81 vehicles, 3,000 light bars, and 250 wireless sets have been procured to strengthen traffic management during the summit.
