In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Kochi city police apprehended two individuals in possession of narcotic substances in the Millupadi area near Infopark late Wednesday night. The arrested persons have been identified as Amit Gopidas, 25, a resident of Kottayam, and Jeffry, 22, from Thrikkakara. The duo was caught with 50 LSD stamps and 63.538 grams of hybrid cannabis.
Operation Details
Acting on a confidential tip-off received by Kochi city police commissioner Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar, the city District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (Dansaf) conducted a targeted inspection in the area. The operation was led by narcotics cell assistant commissioner T D Sunilkumar. The team meticulously searched the vicinity and successfully intercepted the suspects.
During the inspection, the police seized over Rs 1 lakh in cash from the accused, which is believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking. The authorities are now conducting a detailed inquiry to trace the source of the LSD stamps and hybrid cannabis.
Additional Arrest
In a separate operation near Cheranalloor Godown Road, a Dansaf team seized 500 grams of ganja from a West Bengal native. The arrested individual has been identified as Aliraj Sarkar, 43, from Sahib Nagar in Murshidabad. He has been booked under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Sarkar was produced before a court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
The police continue to intensify their efforts to curb drug-related activities in the region, with further investigations underway.
