Noida Cyber Crime Unit Apprehends Suspect in VPN-Based Death Threat Case

The cyber crime branch in Noida has successfully arrested an individual for allegedly making death threat calls while utilizing virtual private network (VPN) numbers to mask his identity. The arrest was executed in Sector 18 based on a confidential tip-off, as confirmed by a police officer on Thursday.

Details of the Accused and Evidence Recovered

Police have identified the accused as Rishant Jain, a resident of JP Wish Town in Sector 128. During interrogation, Jain disclosed that he is employed at a jewellery shop located in Sector 18. Authorities recovered an Apple mobile phone from his possession, which is now a key piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation.

According to police reports, Jain employed paid mobile applications, including call recorders and voice changers, to facilitate the threatening calls. Investigators are actively exploring whether he acted alone or was part of a larger gang aimed at spreading panic within the community.

Attempts to Destroy Evidence and Broader Context

The officer noted that Jain deleted the applications after use in an effort to destroy digital evidence. This arrest occurs just one day after 18 schools in Gautam Buddh Nagar district received hoax bomb threat emails during ongoing board examinations. Officials highlighted that senders of such emails often use VPN technology to evade detection by investigators.

The seized mobile phone has been dispatched for a comprehensive forensic analysis, with police working to determine the duration of Jain's application usage and the number of individuals he may have threatened. Further investigation is underway, and additional actions will be taken based on the findings.
