Mumbai: Services on Metro Line 3 were partially disrupted for approximately 30 minutes on Tuesday afternoon following the detection of smoke at the CSMIA T2 station. No injuries were reported during the incident.
Fire Brigade Response
A fire brigade official confirmed that three fire engines and two jumbo tankers were dispatched to the scene. The fire was successfully extinguished by 4:45 pm. The official noted that smoke had permeated the underground station premises, necessitating the use of breathing apparatus by firefighters. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Impact on Metro Services
According to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL), the minor smoke incident was reported at approximately 4:15 pm and was promptly addressed by the on-site team. As a precautionary measure, the station was briefly evacuated, and trains bypassed the CSMIA T2 station during the half-hour disruption. Metro services between Aarey JVLR and Sahar Road stations were temporarily suspended from 4:15 pm to 4:45 pm. However, operations on the rest of the corridor, including the stretch between Cuffe Parade and Sahar Road, continued to run normally.
Normal Operations Restored
Officials stated that the disruption was limited to the affected section near the airport stations. Normal train operations resumed after the smoke was brought under control. MMRCL issued a statement affirming that all necessary safety protocols were followed and that the situation is fully under control.
