In a significant relief for property owners in Bengaluru, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has announced that citizens can now withdraw erroneous e-khata applications submitted online. This move aims to simplify the process of correcting mistakes made during the application for e-khata, a digital property document that has become mandatory for property transactions in the city.
BBMP Chief Commissioner's Announcement
Munish Moudgil, the Chief Commissioner of BBMP, made the announcement on Wednesday, stating that the facility to withdraw incorrect applications is now available on the official BBMP portal. He emphasized that this step is part of the civic body's efforts to make the e-khata system more user-friendly and reduce the hassle for citizens.
How to Withdraw an Erroneous Application
Citizens who have submitted an e-khata application with errors can log in to the BBMP portal using their credentials. They need to navigate to the e-khata section and select the option to withdraw the application. Once withdrawn, the application fee will be refunded, and the applicant can submit a fresh, corrected application. The process is designed to be straightforward and can be completed without any physical visit to BBMP offices.
Reasons for Withdrawal
Common errors that may necessitate withdrawal include incorrect property details, mismatched owner names, wrong survey numbers, or discrepancies in the property's dimensions. The BBMP has also received feedback about technical glitches that led to inadvertent errors. The new facility aims to address such issues promptly.
Impact on Property Transactions
The e-khata system was introduced to digitize property records and streamline transactions. However, errors in applications have caused delays and complications. With this new feature, the BBMP expects to reduce the number of pending corrections and improve the overall efficiency of the system. Property owners are advised to double-check their applications before submission to avoid the need for withdrawal.
Additional Measures by BBMP
In addition to the withdrawal facility, the BBMP has also launched a helpdesk to assist citizens with e-khata related queries. The helpdesk can be reached via phone or email during office hours. The civic body is also working on integrating the e-khata system with other government databases to ensure accuracy of records.
Munish Moudgil further stated that the BBMP is committed to making the e-khata process seamless and transparent. He urged citizens to take advantage of the new feature and report any issues they face during the process.
This development comes as a welcome step for Bengaluru's real estate sector, which has been grappling with the transition to digital property documents. The ability to withdraw erroneous applications is expected to save time and resources for both property owners and the civic body.
