Chandigarh vehicle owners will soon have an opportunity to secure fancy registration numbers as the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) prepares to introduce the new series CH-01-DE by the end of next week. Officials confirmed that all formalities have been completed, and only final stage preparations remain. Out of the total 9,999 numbers in the new series, 272 have been designated as fancy numbers and will be allotted through an e-auction process.
Current Series and Auction Timeline
Approximately 1,200 to 1,500 numbers are still available in the current series. The launch plan for the new series has been finalized, and the process to schedule and advertise the auction is underway. Sources indicate that the auction is likely to begin by the end of this month.
Reserve Price and Eligibility
The reserve price for fancy numbers will range between Rs 50,000 and Rs 5 lakh, consistent with previous auctions. The entire auction will be conducted online. Vehicle owners must first register on the official RLA website and deposit the required fee to participate. Only those who have purchased vehicles registered at Chandigarh addresses are eligible for the e-auction.
Revenue and Public Access
The auction of fancy numbers remains a significant revenue source for the UT administration, with authorities earning substantial amounts from previous rounds. After the auction process is complete, the CH-01-DE series will be opened to the general public, who can opt for preferred numbers by paying the prescribed fee.
