Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has increased the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) by ₹1 per kilogram in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) effective from Friday. This marks the second price hike in a week, following a similar increase earlier.
Revised CNG Prices
With this revision, the price of CNG in Delhi now stands at ₹75.09 per kg, while in Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad, it is ₹75.42 per kg. In Gurugram, the price has been raised to ₹80.53 per kg. The increase is attributed to a rise in input costs, including higher natural gas prices.
Impact on Commuters
The consecutive hikes have raised concerns among commuters who rely on CNG for their vehicles. Auto-rickshaw drivers and cab operators, in particular, have expressed worries about their earnings. Many have urged the government to intervene to stabilize fuel prices.
Petrol and Diesel Prices Unchanged
Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices have remained steady across the country. In Delhi, petrol is priced at ₹94.72 per litre, and diesel at ₹87.62 per litre. The government has not announced any changes to these rates.
Reasons Behind the Hike
Officials from IGL stated that the price adjustment is necessary to offset increased costs of natural gas procurement. The company reviews and revises prices periodically based on market conditions. The latest hike comes amid global fluctuations in energy prices.
Consumer Response
Consumer groups have criticized the frequent price revisions, calling for a more transparent pricing mechanism. They argue that such increases burden the common man, especially those in lower-income groups who depend on CNG for daily commute.
The Delhi government has yet to comment on the price hike. However, opposition parties have slammed the central government for not controlling inflation in essential commodities.
