CNG Price Hiked by Rs 2 Per Kg in Delhi, Now at Rs 83.09
CNG Price Up Rs 2/kg in Delhi, Now Rs 83.09

The price of compressed natural gas (CNG) in Delhi has been increased by Rs 2 per kilogram, effective from Wednesday. The revised price now stands at Rs 83.09 per kg, according to a notification from Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL).

Details of the Price Revision

IGL announced that the new rate applies to CNG used in vehicles across the national capital. The previous price was Rs 81.09 per kg. This is the second price hike in CNG in recent months, reflecting the volatility in global energy markets.

Impact on Consumers

The increase is expected to affect public transport and private vehicle owners who rely on CNG. Auto-rickshaws, taxis, and buses are among the major consumers. Commuters may face higher fares as operators pass on the cost.

PNG Price Also Raised

In a related move, IGL also increased the price of piped natural gas (PNG) for domestic use by Rs 2 per unit. The new PNG rate in Delhi is now Rs 53.59 per standard cubic meter. This will impact households using PNG for cooking and heating.

Reasons Behind the Hike

The price revision is attributed to the rise in global natural gas prices. IGL sources natural gas from domestic fields and international markets. The company adjusts retail prices based on input costs and supply conditions.

Market Context

Global energy prices have been under pressure due to geopolitical tensions and supply constraints. India imports a significant portion of its natural gas, making domestic prices sensitive to international trends.

Previous Adjustments

Earlier this year, CNG prices had seen a marginal reduction in some cities. However, the current trend indicates a reversal. In Delhi, CNG prices have fluctuated between Rs 75 and Rs 85 per kg over the past year.

Comparison with Petrol and Diesel

Despite the hike, CNG remains cheaper than petrol and diesel. Petrol in Delhi costs around Rs 96 per liter, while diesel is priced at Rs 89 per liter. The gap provides an incentive for vehicle owners to switch to CNG.

Government's Stance

The government has not intervened directly in CNG pricing, as it is deregulated. However, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas monitors the situation. Officials have urged IGL to ensure adequate supply and minimize frequent revisions.

Consumers are advised to check the latest prices at IGL stations. The company operates over 500 CNG stations in Delhi and surrounding regions.
