New Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, speaking on the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's 32nd foundation day on Sunday, proposed establishing cloth banks at Metro stations to facilitate the recycling of used garments. Gupta suggested linking this initiative with women's self-help groups to promote environmental sustainability while also generating livelihood opportunities.
Metro as Delhi's Lifeline
Describing the metro as Delhi's 'lifeline', she stated that it is not just a mode of transport but a symbol of efficiency, discipline, and trust. She emphasized that the commitment of employees and support staff has made the system a globally recognized model of urban transit.
New Corridors Announced
A day earlier, Gupta announced seven new corridors under Phase V (B). 'Work under Phase IV and Phase V is progressing rapidly, and preparations are under way to begin construction on seven new corridors under Phase V (B),' she said.
Annual Awards Ceremony
DMRC gave its annual awards at the event. The Lajpat Nagar station was awarded as the best station, and Najafgarh was recognized as the best depot.
The event was attended by Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu, Secretary (MoHUA) Katikithala Srinivas, officials from the Embassy of Japan, and senior officials of DMRC.
