Steel Sheets Installed to Deter Public Urination
Bidar City Corporation (BCC) has introduced a new measure to curb urination in public places: installing steel sheets on walls and underpasses. This initiative, announced on 3 July 2026, aims to make surfaces slippery and uncomfortable for individuals attempting to urinate in public. BCC Commissioner Shashikanth Shembelli confirmed the move, stating that the steel sheets are being placed in identified hotspots across the city.
Previous Awareness Campaigns
Earlier, the city corporation had implemented other awareness initiatives, including paintings and graffiti on underpasses and other public places. These artistic efforts were designed to discourage public urination through visual messaging. The steel sheets are the latest addition to this ongoing line of deterrents, according to Shembelli.
Impact and Future Plans
The new measure targets areas where public urination has been a persistent issue, particularly near walls and underpasses. While the effectiveness of steel sheets has yet to be fully assessed, the corporation hopes it will complement existing strategies. Similar approaches have been tried in other cities like Mysuru, where the Mysuru City Corporation has also experimented with anti-urination measures. The BCC plans to monitor the situation and expand the installation if the initiative proves successful.
