The Haryana government has temporarily suspended mobile internet, bulk SMS and dongle services within a one-kilometre radius of Faridabad’s NIT Zone in anticipation of a demolition operation. The restrictions were imposed from 12:30 am to 10 pm on May 30, as confirmed by official sources.
Reason for Suspension
Authorities cited concerns over potential unrest, misinformation and the possibility of large gatherings being mobilised through social media platforms. The move is described as a temporary preventive measure aimed at maintaining public order during the demolition drive.
Exemptions
Voice calls, banking SMS alerts, individual messages, broadband and leased-line internet services remain exempt from the suspension. This ensures that essential communication and financial transactions are not disrupted.
Officials emphasised that the decision was taken after careful assessment of the local situation and is intended solely to prevent any untoward incidents. The demolition operation is part of ongoing efforts to clear encroachments in the area.
