Vadodara's Pink Auto Drivers Embrace Digital Mobility with Bharat Taxi Partnership

In a significant stride towards digital inclusion and women's economic empowerment, fifteen women auto-rickshaw drivers from economically weaker backgrounds in Vadodara have joined the Bharat Taxi platform. These drivers, popularly known as 'pink auto drivers,' are now part of a tech-enabled mobility ecosystem that promises higher earnings, improved safety, and wider market access.

Expanding Opportunities Through Technology

The programme connects these women drivers to a ride-hailing ecosystem, allowing them to tap into a larger customer base. Key benefits include:

  • Access to improved safety features for secure rides.
  • Seamless digital payment systems for hassle-free transactions.
  • Flexible working options across auto, bike, and cab segments.

Officials highlight that the Bharat Taxi Driver App offers easy registration, document upload facilities, and real-time tracking of rides and earnings. A standout feature is the zero-commission model, where drivers retain their entire earnings, credited directly to their accounts.

Foundation Support and Future Plans

These women were previously supported by the Alembic Foundation under its #ForHerWithHer initiative, which enabled them to purchase and operate their own auto-rickshaws, fostering financial independence and self-reliance. With their entry into Bharat Taxi, the initiative is expected to further broaden their earning potential by ensuring more consistent ride opportunities and stronger income stability.

"This partnership is a testament to the power of collaboration in driving meaningful social change," said Malika Amin, managing trustee of Alembic Foundation. "By providing these women access to a larger platform, we are not only expanding their business prospects but also strengthening their families' economic future." She added that the foundation plans to induct more pink auto-rickshaws in the coming months as part of its continued focus on women's empowerment and livelihood generation.

Promoting Inclusive Urban Mobility

Supported by the cooperation ministry, this initiative aims to promote inclusive urban mobility while financially empowering women drivers. The integration of pink auto drivers into Bharat Taxi represents a holistic approach to addressing gender disparities in the transportation sector, leveraging technology to create sustainable livelihoods.

As these women navigate Vadodara's streets, their partnership with Bharat Taxi not only enhances their economic prospects but also sets a precedent for digital empowerment in India's mobility landscape, encouraging more such collaborations for social impact.
