Indian Railways to Phase Out UTS App, Transition to RailOne Super App
In a significant move to streamline digital services, the Ministry of Railways has announced the discontinuation of the UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) mobile application, effective March 1, 2026. Passengers are now required to switch to the RailOne super app for all their ticket booking needs, marking a pivotal shift in the national transporter's digital strategy.
End of an Era for UTS App
Launched on December 27, 2014, the UTS app has been a cornerstone for booking unreserved tickets, including season tickets and platform tickets, for over a decade. However, with the advent of more advanced technology, Indian Railways is retiring this platform to consolidate services under the RailOne umbrella.
Dilip Kumar, Executive Director (Information & Publicity) at the Railway Board, confirmed this development, stating, "The new app RailOne, launched last year, is user-friendly and also includes the features of the existing UTS app." This transition aims to enhance passenger convenience by offering a single, integrated solution for various railway services.
RailOne: A Comprehensive Digital Hub
RailOne, introduced last year, serves as a one-stop digital platform for railway passengers. It supports existing RailConnect and UTS credentials, ensuring a seamless migration for users. The app's features include:
- Booking of Unreserved Tickets, Reserved Tickets, and Platform Tickets
- Access to integrated services such as IRCTC Rail Connect, NTES, Rail Madad, and Food on Track
- Live train running status, delays, and updated arrival/departure timings
- Real-time coach position and platform information
- PNR status tracking and management of cancellations and refunds
- Food ordering from IRCTC-approved vendors directly to seats
- Lodging complaints and feedback through Rail Madad support
The booking process is designed to be simple and secure, with multiple payment options including UPI, debit/credit cards, R-wallet, and net banking.
Incentives to Promote Digital Adoption
Since January 2026, Indian Railways has been actively promoting digital ticketing by offering incentives to passengers using the RailOne app. A key highlight is a 3% discount on unreserved ticket bookings made through digital payment modes such as UPI, debit cards, credit cards, and net banking on the RailOne platform.
This discount scheme is valid for a period of six months, from January 14, 2026, to July 14, 2026. For passengers using the R-wallet, the existing system of a 3% bonus as cashback will continue unchanged, ensuring no disruption for loyal users.
Background and Expert Insights
The decision to phase out the UTS app aligns with Indian Railways' broader push towards digital transformation and improved passenger experience. By consolidating multiple apps into RailOne, the ministry aims to reduce complexity and provide a more efficient service.
This move follows recommendations from parliamentary panels and ongoing efforts to modernize railway operations. It reflects a strategic shift towards leveraging technology to meet evolving travel needs in an increasingly digital era.
As Indian Railways embarks on this transition, passengers are encouraged to download the RailOne app and familiarize themselves with its features ahead of the March 1 deadline to ensure uninterrupted access to ticket booking and other railway services.
