Nagpur: After a brief respite from cloudy skies and gusty winds, Vidarbha is again bracing for intense heat, with temperatures likely to approach 45°C this week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) data on Monday showed Akola as the hottest city in the region, recording a scorching 45.1°C, followed by Amravati at 44°C and Wardha at 43.8°C. Nagpur, the region's largest city, registered a high of 42°C, while Buldhana and Washim recorded 43.2°C and 42.6°C, respectively.
According to the IMD, dry weather is forecast across the region over the next few days, which is expected to push daytime temperatures even higher. Heatwave-like conditions are likely in several districts, including Nagpur, Akola, Wardha, Chandrapur, and Amravati. The weekend's weather activity, which brought clouds and gusty winds, offered only temporary relief from the oppressive heat. With clear skies returning, strong solar heating has triggered a fresh rise in temperatures across Vidarbha.
Precautions Advised
Authorities have advised residents to take necessary precautions against the extreme heat. People are urged to avoid outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours, typically between 12 PM and 4 PM, when the sun is at its strongest. Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water and fluids is essential to prevent heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Wearing light-colored, loose-fitting clothing and using sun protection like hats and umbrellas can also help mitigate the effects of the heat.
Impact on Daily Life
The rising temperatures are expected to impact daily life, with increased demand for electricity and water. Residents are advised to stay indoors as much as possible and check on vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and children, who are more susceptible to heat-related conditions. The IMD will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as necessary.
