The Delhi government is set to launch an electric vehicle (EV) portal soon, streamlining the process for citizens to avail incentives under the new EV policy. Verified applicants will receive purchase and scrapping incentives directly into their bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring transparency and efficiency.
Key Features of the EV Portal
The portal will serve as a single-window platform for EV buyers and scrapping applicants. It will verify documents, process applications, and disburse incentives without manual intervention. This move aims to accelerate EV adoption in the national capital.
Direct Benefit Transfer Mechanism
Under the DBT model, eligible beneficiaries will get subsidies for purchasing new EVs and scrapping old vehicles. The government has allocated a dedicated budget for these incentives, which will be credited directly to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. According to an official statement, this eliminates middlemen and reduces delays.
Impact on EV Adoption
The initiative is part of Delhi's broader clean mobility plan. With the portal going live, the government expects a surge in EV registrations. The policy offers up to Rs 30,000 for two-wheelers and Rs 1.5 lakh for four-wheelers. Scrapping incentives range from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 per vehicle.
Implementation Timeline
The portal is expected to be operational within a month. The transport department will oversee its rollout. Citizens can apply online, track application status, and receive payments seamlessly. The government has urged stakeholders to prepare for the transition.
