Bajaj Avenger Street 220 Launch Imminent in India

Bajaj Auto appears poised to expand its Avenger motorcycle lineup in India with the introduction of the Avenger Street 220. The model has been listed on the company’s official website, suggesting that a launch could occur in the near future, although an exact date has yet to be confirmed.

Positioning and Pricing

The upcoming Avenger Street 220 will be positioned alongside the existing Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220 and is expected to share most of its mechanical components. The Cruise 220 currently retails at Rs. 1.29 lakh (ex-showroom), and the Street variant is likely to be priced slightly lower to attract a different segment of buyers. Meanwhile, Bajaj has quietly removed the Avenger Street 160 from its website, effectively leaving the 220cc versions as the only options in the Avenger range for now.

Engine and Performance

Powering the new Street 220 will be the same 220cc, air/oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine found on the Cruise 220. This unit produces 19 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 17.6 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm, paired with a 5-speed gearbox. The engine is known for its reliable performance and smooth power delivery, making it suitable for both city commuting and highway cruising.

Design and Features

In terms of design and ergonomics, the Street 220 will differ from the Cruise variant. It is likely to feature a lower handlebar for a more aggressive riding stance and will replace the tall windshield with a shorter visor. The motorcycle also adopts a darker theme, with blacked-out components across the engine bay, wheels, and cycle parts, in contrast to the chrome-heavy finish of the Cruise. Alloy wheels will be standard on the Street, while the Cruise continues with wire-spoke units.

The Avenger Street 220 is expected to be offered in two colour options: Ebony Black and Cocktail Wine Red. Feature highlights are likely to include a front disc brake, rear drum brake, semi-digital instrument cluster, and other essential amenities that cater to modern riders.

Market Impact

With the introduction of the Street 220, Bajaj Auto aims to strengthen its presence in the cruiser motorcycle segment, offering a more affordable and stylish alternative to the Cruise 220. The move also simplifies the Avenger lineup by focusing on the 220cc engine, which has been well-received by customers. As Bajaj continues to innovate and expand its product portfolio, the Avenger Street 220 is expected to generate significant interest among motorcycle enthusiasts in India.
