Signal Failure Disrupts Green Line Services
Bengaluru Metro's Green Line faced major delays during peak hours on Tuesday, affecting thousands of commuters. The disruption occurred due to a signal failure between Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station and Chickpet, leading to trains running at reduced speeds and longer waiting times. According to a Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) official, the issue was detected around 8:45 AM and was resolved by 10:15 AM, but normal services took additional time to resume fully.
Impact on Commuters
Passengers reported waiting for up to 20-30 minutes at several stations, including Majestic, KSR Railway Station, and Lalbagh. Many missed their connections and appointments due to the delays. "I was stuck at Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station for nearly 25 minutes with no announcements about the delay. This is becoming a regular headache," said a commuter who wished to remain anonymous. The Green Line, which connects the northern and southern parts of the city, carries over 2 lakh passengers daily.
Recurring Issues Raise Concerns
This is not the first time the Green Line has faced disruptions. In the past month, similar signal glitches and technical snags have caused delays on multiple occasions. BMRCL officials stated that they are working on upgrading the signaling system to prevent such occurrences. "We are in the process of implementing a more robust signaling system, but it will take time. We apologize for the inconvenience caused," said a BMRCL spokesperson. However, commuters remain skeptical, demanding faster action to ensure reliable services.
Technical Details and Response
The signal failure was attributed to a malfunction in the train control system. BMRCL deployed maintenance teams immediately, and trains were manually operated in the affected section to minimize disruption. Despite the efforts, the ripple effect caused delays across the entire line. The BMRCL has assured that an investigation is underway to determine the root cause and prevent future incidents.
