Hyundai India Gears Up for Major Facelifts of Verna and Exter Models
Hyundai Motor India is advancing plans to introduce updated versions of two popular vehicles: the Hyundai Verna sedan and the Hyundai Exter micro SUV. Both models, which originally debuted in 2023, are scheduled for mid-cycle refreshes, with the Verna facelift expected to lead the way, followed by the Exter at a later date. Importantly, these updates will not involve a generational overhaul; instead, they will maintain the same underlying platforms while incorporating a range of enhancements.
Hyundai Verna Facelift: Design and Features Preview
The Hyundai Verna facelift is anticipated to make its debut first, with a projected launch timeline around June 2026. Recent spy images reveal a heavily camouflaged prototype, but key design changes are discernible. The front end is set for a complete redesign, featuring a new bumper with diagonal elements reminiscent of the Hyundai Sonata, alongside larger headlamp units that may integrate indicators. A full-width LED light bar will be retained from the current model.
From the side, the most noticeable update is a revised set of 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, with potential blacked-out finishes for the 1.5-litre turbo variants. At the rear, expect revised LED lighting signatures and a redesigned bumper, though details remain obscured under camouflage.
Interior and Mechanical Specifications of the Verna Facelift
Inside, the cabin could see minor updates such as new trim elements and an updated colour theme. It may also adopt dual 12.3-inch displays and a redesigned three-spoke steering wheel, similar to those found in the Hyundai Venue. Mechanically, the Verna facelift is likely to continue with the existing powertrain options: a 115 horsepower 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 160 horsepower turbo-petrol unit. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual gearbox, with the NA version offering a CVT and the turbo variant paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Hyundai Exter Facelift: Updates and Expectations
Alongside the Verna, the Hyundai Exter facelift has also been spotted during testing. The overall silhouette remains similar to the current model, with H-shaped, high-mounted LED daytime running lights and largely unchanged square projector headlamps. However, the front bumper may receive minor revisions, and the grille appears taller and more upright in camouflaged images.
At the rear, tail lamps retain the H-shaped lighting pattern, but a connecting light bar could be introduced as part of the update. Inside, the cabin layout is expected to stay largely the same, with potential equipment upgrades such as a larger infotainment touchscreen with a new user interface, ventilated seats, and more features.
Powertrain and Performance Details for the Exter Facelift
Mechanically, the Exter facelift is projected to remain unchanged, powered by a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that delivers 83 horsepower and 114 Nm of torque. In CNG specification, this engine produces 69 horsepower and 95.2 Nm of torque, available exclusively with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
These facelifts represent Hyundai's strategy to keep its models competitive in the Indian market through timely updates, focusing on aesthetics and feature enhancements without altering core mechanical components.
