Kanpur weather: Relief from heat, rain and hailstorms forecast

Residents of Kanpur experienced slight relief from the intense heat on Friday as the mercury dipped and the maximum temperature settled at 37.3 degrees Celsius, which was 3.9 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature also dropped to 26.2 degrees Celsius, providing some respite during the night. However, high relative humidity continued to trouble citizens.

North-eastern winds swept across the city at speeds ranging between 11.7 kmph and 17.3 kmph. The city witnessed cloudy skies and light drizzle in some areas during the morning hours, offering pleasant weather to morning walkers. However, by 8 am, the skies cleared and bright sunshine returned.

Weather Forecast for Kanpur

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a strong possibility of light rain accompanied by strong winds and hailstorms in parts of the Kanpur division during the next 24 hours. Wind speeds of 50 to 60 kmph are likely during this period, which may provide significant relief from the prevailing heat and humidity conditions.

According to the forecast, daytime temperatures are expected to remain between 35 degrees Celsius and 39 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature is likely to be between 27 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius during night and early morning hours. Humidity levels are expected to remain high between 50 and 70 percent.

On Saturday, June 13, light drizzle or cloudy conditions are likely during the morning hours, while clear skies and bright sunshine are expected later in the day. In view of the sudden weather change and strong winds, the Meteorological Department has advised residents to remain alert and stay in safe places during adverse weather conditions.

Expert Opinion

Dr S. Sunil Pandey, weather expert at Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, said that due to atmospheric moisture, strong winds, thunderstorms and light rain or showers are likely in the Kanpur division from Friday night till Saturday morning. He added that a further drop in temperature is expected, though humid conditions may continue whenever sunlight reappears.
