KTM has given its popular 160 Duke a significant feature upgrade, launching a new variant equipped with a modern TFT instrument cluster. This move replaces the older LCD display, making the motorcycle more appealing in the competitive entry-level performance segment. The naked streetfighter continues to attract buyers looking for sporty design and impressive performance at an accessible price point.
Price and Positioning: A Competitive Arena
The newly launched KTM 160 Duke TFT display variant carries an ex-showroom price tag of ₹178,536. The bike is also available with an LCD cluster at a slightly lower price of ₹170,545. Its key rival, the Yamaha MT 15 V2, is priced between ₹155,469 and ₹165,509 (ex-showroom), depending on the colour scheme. This places the KTM at a premium, banking on its brand appeal and the new upmarket feature.
Specification Showdown: Power vs Refinement
When it comes to the heart of the machines, the KTM 160 Duke holds a slight edge in capacity and output. It is powered by a 164.2 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces a healthy 18.74 bhp at 9,500 rpm and 15.5 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.
In the opposite corner, the Yamaha MT 15 V2 draws energy from a slightly smaller 155 cc liquid-cooled engine. This motor generates 18.14 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 14.1 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm, also mated to a 6-speed transmission. While the KTM offers more torque, the Yamaha is known for its refined performance.
Which Bike Should You Choose?
The choice between the KTM 160 Duke and the Yamaha MT 15 V2 ultimately boils down to priority. The KTM, with its new TFT console, offers a more modern and feature-rich dashboard experience, coupled with marginally higher power and torque figures. The Yamaha, on the other hand, undercuts it on price and is renowned for its fuel efficiency and agile handling. Both bikes represent excellent choices in the growing segment of affordable, sporty naked motorcycles, catering to young riders seeking a blend of daily usability and thrilling performance.
