Heavy monsoon clouds gathered over Jalandhar on Sunday, finally delivering the much-awaited showers that brought significant relief from the prolonged spell of heat and humidity. The rain, however, also caused inconvenience in several areas, particularly where surface water pipeline projects are underway.
Rain Brings Respite from Humidity
Clouds hovered over the city for most of the day, raising hopes among residents. Their anticipation turned into relief as showers lashed several parts of Jalandhar, bringing down the temperature and making the weather pleasant. The rain was a welcome change after weeks of intense heat, according to locals.
Waterlogging and Commuting Issues
While the rain offered respite, it also led to waterlogging and sand spread across roads at construction sites related to the surface water project. Motorists and pedestrians faced difficulties navigating these areas. Residents expressed concern over the city's recurring waterlogging issues, noting that low-lying areas are prone to flooding during heavy rainfall, often causing traffic congestion and disrupting daily life.
Residents Welcome the Rain
Ravneet Kaur, a bank employee, said, "The weather today was truly refreshing. It was much needed as we had been struggling with intense heat for so many days." Her sentiment echoed that of many residents who welcomed the monsoon but also called for better infrastructure to manage waterlogging.
