AM Group Initiates Construction of $25 Billion AI Compute Hub in Greater Noida
Energy transition leader AM Group announced on Monday that it has started the development of a massive 1 gigawatt (GW) high-performance compute hub in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. This project, backed by a substantial investment of $25 billion, follows a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the Uttar Pradesh government during the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Land Allocation and Phased Development
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has issued a letter of intent (LOI) to AM AI Labs, an affiliate of AM Group, for the allocation of land parcels. This will facilitate the establishment of the first two phases of the hub, which include data centres with capacities of 150 MW and 200 MW, respectively.
Timeline for Operational Phases:
- The initial 350 MW compute capacity is scheduled to be online by 2028.
- The full 1 GW capacity is expected to become operational by 2030.
Project Details and Strategic Vision
Based in Hyderabad and promoted by the founders of Greenko Group, AM Group plans to deploy approximately 500,000 high-performance chips as part of this initiative. The project is designed as a fully vertically integrated AI platform, combining several key components:
- Owned carbon-free power generation.
- Advanced data centre infrastructure.
- High-performance computing chips.
- A comprehensive software stack and applications.
- Innovative consumption models, such as "AI Pods as a Service" and "Tokens as a Service".
To ensure sustainability, the hub will rely on renewable energy sources and pumped storage assets, managed through an in-house cloud energy architecture. This approach aims to deliver firm, on-demand carbon-free electricity at costs below global market rates.
Leadership and Economic Impact
AM AI Labs boasts a leadership team comprising veterans from major technology firms, including Apple, AMD, NVIDIA, Cisco, and Intel. Group Chairman Anil Chalamalasetty emphasized the company's goal to provide "the lowest cost, most efficient AI tokens" using clean energy that it owns and operates.
Chalamalasetty highlighted that this project is intended to position Uttar Pradesh as a premier destination for AI infrastructure, aligning with India's broader Viksit Bharat 2047 vision for developed nation status. The initiative is expected to significantly boost the region's technological and economic landscape, attracting further investments and fostering innovation in the AI sector.
