Ericsson Unveils 5G Innovations at India Mobile Congress

At the prestigious India Mobile Congress 2025, telecommunications giant Ericsson has positioned itself at the forefront of India's digital revolution by introducing a comprehensive range of 5G and artificial intelligence solutions. The company's immersive exhibition demonstrated how these cutting-edge technologies are revolutionizing multiple sectors across the nation.

India's Remarkable 5G Journey

India has emerged as a global leader in 5G adoption with an impressive 360 million subscribers and network coverage extending to over 80% of the population. This rapid expansion sets the stage for Ericsson's latest innovations designed to accelerate industrial growth and enhance societal connectivity.

Transformative Innovations on Display

Ericsson's booth featured several groundbreaking applications that showcase the practical implementation of 5G technology in solving real-world challenges.

The Grain ATM Annapurti, developed in collaboration with the World Food Programme, represents a significant advancement in food distribution. This 5G-enabled dispenser utilizes Aadhaar-based biometric authentication and is already operational in cities including Shillong and Lucknow. With 23 additional units scheduled for nationwide deployment, this technology directly supports the government's One Nation One Ration Card initiative.

In healthcare, Ericsson presented StethoECG, a revolutionary handheld wireless stethoscope created with IIT Madras. This device incorporates embedded ECG capabilities and enables real-time remote diagnostics through 5G connectivity, making quality healthcare accessible even in remote rural areas.

The transportation sector witnessed the introduction of an Automated Railcar Inspection system featuring a robotic dog equipped with advanced sensors and cameras. Operating on private 5G networks with AI integration, this innovation significantly enhances railway safety and operational efficiency.

Bridging the Digital Divide

Ericsson's Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) solutions are making substantial progress in addressing India's broadband connectivity challenges. With 8.4 million subscribers, 40% of whom are from rural regions, this technology delivers fiber-like speeds without physical cables, effectively narrowing the digital gap between urban and rural communities.

The company also presented an Augmented Reality demonstration called "Train Ride to the Future" that illustrated how seamless 5G connectivity can transform commuter experiences by blending entertainment, productivity tools, and communication services during travel.

Strengthening India's Technological Foundation

Ericsson is reinforcing its commitment to India through substantial investments in research and development. The company's R&D centers in Chennai, Bengaluru, and Gurugram are actively driving advancements in AI, 6G technology, and semiconductor design.

Recent expansions include the growth of ASIC R&D operations in Bengaluru and the initiation of passive antenna manufacturing in partnership with VVDN Technologies. These developments align perfectly with India's Make in India and Digital India national missions.
