Jaipur: Preparatory work for Jaipur Metro Phase II has officially commenced, as the Rajasthan Metro Railway Corporation (RMRC) has initiated pre-construction activities at the proposed Prahladpura metro station site. Early field operations are underway even as the project awaits final clearances for a formal foundation stone laying ceremony to begin full-scale construction.
Pre-Construction Tasks Underway
A senior metro official confirmed that the turnkey contractor is currently executing pre-construction tasks, which include soil testing and ground levelling, to prepare the corridor site. However, full-scale construction will only commence once the official foundation stone laying ceremony takes place.
Awaiting Approvals for Foundation Stone Ceremony
RMRC officials stated that the corporation is fully prepared to move ahead with the project but is awaiting approvals from the Prime Minister's Office and the Chief Minister's Office to finalise the date for the foundation stone ceremony. A senior official noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to lay the foundation stone, but confirmation from the central government is required. Alternatively, the PMO may delegate a union minister or Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma to perform the ceremony. Approval is expected within a few days.
Project Scope and Packages
The 41-kilometre-long corridor will connect Prahladpura in Sanganer to Todi Mod in Vidhyadhar Nagar. Work will be executed through seven packages, with the appointed contractor operating as a joint venture tasked with delivering one of the seven segments. The first package, from Prahladpura to Pinjrapole Gaushala, will feature 10 elevated stations along Tonk Road. RMRC will allocate approximately Rs 918 crore for this package.
Another metro official emphasized that the first package is critical to the project's timeline and will be prioritized once the foundation stone is laid.
