India's Netra AEW&C System to Get Final Operational Clearance on June 25
Netra AEW&C to Receive Final Operational Clearance This Month

India is poised to achieve a significant milestone in indigenous defence technology as the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) prepares to formally declare the Final Operational Clearance (FOC) of the Netra Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) system on June 25. The ceremony will take place at the Centre for Airborne Systems in Bengaluru.

India's 'Eye in the Sky'

Known as the Indian Air Force's 'eye in the sky', Netra is India's first indigenously developed airborne surveillance and command-and-control platform. Built on the Embraer EMB-145 aircraft, the system is equipped with an indigenous Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar. This advanced radar enables Netra to detect, track and identify multiple aerial and maritime targets simultaneously, providing a comprehensive picture of the battlespace.

Significance of Final Operational Clearance

The FOC marks the successful operational maturation of the platform. It signifies that the system has met all required performance parameters and is ready for full-scale operational deployment. This clearance significantly strengthens India's network-centric warfare capabilities, early warning systems and air defence infrastructure. With Netra in service, the Indian Air Force gains a critical edge in monitoring and responding to threats in real time.

Indigenous Technology Boost

The development of Netra underscores India's growing self-reliance in defence technology. DRDO's achievement with the AEW&C system demonstrates the country's capability to design and produce complex surveillance platforms. The FOC is expected to pave the way for further enhancements and potential exports of the system to friendly nations.
