A nuclear reactor enclosure for Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant Units 5 and 6 was flagged off from Larsen & Toubro's (L&T) Hazira facility on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in India's nuclear energy programme and underscoring Gujarat's expanding role in advanced engineering and manufacturing.
The reactor enclosure was dispatched from L&T's AM Naik Heavy Engineering Complex at Hazira by Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi. The component is destined for the Kaiga project in Karnataka. During the event, Sanghavi also inaugurated a robotics heavy fabrication station at the plant, which is designed to strengthen high-end manufacturing capabilities.
Addressing the gathering, Sanghavi stated, "Gujarat has emerged as a major hub in supporting India's nuclear power capabilities." He emphasized that the manufacturing of critical reactor components at Hazira is a matter of pride for the state and reflects engineering excellence as well as the success of the 'Make in India' initiative. Sanghavi further noted that Gujarat's capabilities in advanced engineering and the nuclear energy sector are now gaining global recognition. "From innovation to execution, the state plays a leading role in India's development journey," he added.
During his visit, Sanghavi planted a tree on the campus, highlighting the importance of environmental conservation alongside industrial growth. The reactor enclosure manufactured at L&T Hazira is a complex structure built to meet stringent safety standards for nuclear installations. Its dispatch demonstrates the capacity of Indian industry to produce precision equipment for strategic infrastructure projects and provides another boost to India's push for self-reliance in critical energy infrastructure.
The event also featured the inauguration of the robotics heavy fabrication station, which is expected to enhance productivity and precision in manufacturing. This facility aligns with the government's vision of promoting advanced manufacturing technologies under the 'Make in India' initiative.
