Navi Mumbai: In a remarkable first, two men from Dombivli were safely rescued using a robotic watercraft at Kashid beach in Murud taluka on April 29. The two individuals had entered the sea but began drowning when the robotic buoy was deployed for the rescue operation.
First Successful Robotic Rescue Operation
This marks the first successful operation after three robotic watercrafts were deployed at Nagaon, Kashid, and Harihareshwar beaches in Raigad district. The remote-operated buoy was sent into the sea for search and rescue purposes. The speeding watercraft reached the victims within a minute and successfully pulled them out of the seawater. The operation proved its effectiveness exactly when it was needed.
Victims Identified
The rescued individuals have been identified as Furkan Shaikh (28) and Kaif Shaik (22). Both were unaware of the depth of the water level and were dragged away by a series of waves. A constable on duty and a lifeguard, Shivam Lad, immediately took action to save the two lives.
The robotic buoy was handed over to the local administration on April 12 this year following previous drowning incidents. This innovative technology has now demonstrated its potential in preventing tragedies along the coastline.
