Apple Unveils iPhone 17e: The Budget-Friendly Entry in India's Premium Smartphone Market
Apple has officially introduced the iPhone 17e, positioning it as the most accessible model within its iPhone 17 lineup. With a starting price of Rs 64,900 in India, this device aims to deliver flagship-like features at a more economical cost, representing a significant upgrade over last year's iPhone 16e.
Enhanced Performance and Connectivity with A19 Chip and C1X Modem
At the heart of the iPhone 17e lies the A19 chip, fabricated using advanced 3nm technology. This processor is identical to the one found in the standard iPhone 17, albeit with one fewer GPU core, ensuring robust performance for everyday tasks and applications. Accompanying the A19 is Apple's new C1X modem, which promises double the speed of the previous C1 modem and a 30 percent improvement in energy efficiency compared to the modem used in the iPhone 16 Pro.
This combination contributes to an impressive rated battery life of up to 26 hours for video playback. For wired charging, the USB-C port supports fast charging, capable of reaching 50 percent battery in approximately 30 minutes when paired with a 20W adapter.
Display and Design: Familiar Yet Refined
The iPhone 17e retains the 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display from its predecessor, maintaining a 60Hz refresh rate without ProMotion, Dynamic Island, or always-on display features. However, the front glass receives an upgrade to Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple claims offers three times better scratch resistance, enhancing durability.
Design-wise, the phone features an aluminium frame, Face ID via the notch, an Action button, and IP68 water resistance. It weighs 169 grams, a slight increase of 2 grams compared to the iPhone 16e, available in black, white, and a new soft pink colour.
Camera Capabilities and Storage Options
Photography enthusiasts will find the 48MP Fusion camera system, which provides an optical-quality 2x telephoto crop and improved Portrait mode with automatic depth capture. Video recording supports 4K Dolby Vision at up to 60fps. The front-facing camera remains at 12MP, not upgraded to the 18MP sensor found on the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air.
Storage options have been doubled from the base model of the previous generation, now offering 256GB and 512GB variants, catering to users with higher media and app storage needs.
MagSafe Integration and Software Features
A notable addition is MagSafe with Qi2 support, enabling 15W wireless charging—double the 7.5W capability of the iPhone 16e. This feature unlocks access to Apple's magnetic accessory ecosystem, including chargers, wallets, and cases.
The iPhone 17e runs on iOS 26, incorporating Apple Intelligence features such as Live Translation, Call Screening, Visual Intelligence, and Clean Up. It also includes satellite connectivity for Emergency SOS and Messages via satellite. However, it lacks the Camera Control button, with Visual Intelligence accessible through the Control Panel instead.

Priced at Rs 64,900, the iPhone 17e is Rs 5,000 more expensive than the launch price of the iPhone 16e. Apple offers EMI options starting at Rs 11,327 per month for six months. Pre-orders commence on March 4 at 7:45 PM IST, with sales beginning on March 11 through Apple Store online and authorized retail partners across India.
