A massive fire broke out in a bike parts warehouse near Baradevi intersection in the Rakhi Mandi area of Kanpur on Friday evening, causing panic among employees and local residents.
Chaos and Initial Response
Approximately a dozen employees were working when the fire started. People rushed toward the site, and some attempted to extinguish the blaze but failed. They then alerted the local police and the Fire Control Room.
Employees reported that they were working on the upper floor when the fire suddenly erupted. They tried to use installed fire extinguishers, but the flames spread rapidly and became extremely fierce within minutes. Witnesses said flames rose up to 50 meters high, and thick black smoke filled the sky.
Firefighting Efforts
Eight fire tenders from different fire stations arrived sequentially and began efforts to douse the fire. Chief Fire Officer Deepak Sharma stated, “The fire was tackled from three sides. Firefighters sprayed water with high pressure, and we gradually managed to control the blaze. It took approximately three hours to extinguish the fire.”
Authorities are assessing the damage and loss. Officials will also check whether fire safety norms were followed at the warehouse. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
