Noida Metro Expansion Tender Issued for Two Corridors Ahead of Airport Launch
Noida Metro Expansion Tender Issued for Two Corridors

The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has taken a significant step towards multimodal transport integration by issuing a tender for the extension of two metro corridors. This development comes as commercial operations at the Noida International Airport are scheduled to begin on June 15.

Details of the Two Metro Corridors

The first corridor, stretching 11.5 kilometers from Botanical Garden to Sector 142, is expected to be completed within four years. The second, a 2.6-kilometer link from Depot to Boraki, will be built within three years. By 2031, NMRC anticipates a daily ridership of 33,000 on the Depot-Boraki route and over 1 lakh on the Botanical Garden-Sector 142 route.

Botanical Garden-Sector 142 Corridor

This corridor will feature eight elevated stations connecting major office hubs and residential sectors. Proposed stations include Botanical Garden, Sector 44, Sector 96 (Noida Authority office), Sector 97, Sector 105, Sector 108 (police commissionerate), Sector 93, and Panchsheel Balak Inter College in Sector 91. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 2,254 crore.

The corridor holds strategic importance as it will directly link Botanical Garden—a key interchange station connecting DMRC's Blue Line and Magenta Line—with prominent sectors in Noida. It is also expected to provide easier metro connectivity to the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Depot-Boraki Route

The shorter Depot-Boraki route, costing an estimated Rs 416 crore, will include two stations—Junpat and Boraki. This stretch is considered crucial as it will connect the proposed multimodal transport hub at Boraki village, which will also house an inter-state bus terminal and a railway terminal.

Official Statement and Future Plans

Noida Authority CEO and NMRC Managing Director Krishna Karunesh stated, “Now that we have issued the tender, the project work will start.” However, a third ambitious stretch planned by NMRC remains in limbo. Alok Singh, a resident of Sector Alpha 1 in Greater Noida, expressed concerns: “The need for metro is more in Greater Noida West. Thousands of people get stuck in jams at Gaur Chowk during peak hours. Despite our repeated requests and protests, there has been no update on that route.”

NMRC had earlier planned to develop 11 stations connecting Sector 51 to Knowledge Park V via Greater Noida West. However, due to the proposed rapid rail route from Ghaziabad to Jewar via Gaur Chowk, the proposal did not receive clearance from the Centre. NMRC has now decided to prepare a revised detailed project report for a metro extension from Sector 51 to Gaur Chowk.

Current Metro Operations

As of April 2026, the Aqua Line connects Noida Sector 51 with Depot Station in Greater Noida and records around 65,290 passengers daily. The new expansions aim to further enhance connectivity and ease congestion in the rapidly growing region.
