OnePlus is gearing up for a major smartphone launch in India, with the OnePlus 15R set to debut on 17 December. Ahead of the official unveiling, the company has started confirming key specifications, headlined by a record-breaking battery that promises to redefine endurance for power users.
Massive Battery and Fast Charging
The Chinese smartphone maker has announced that the OnePlus 15R will pack a 7,400mAh battery, marking the largest power cell ever used in a OnePlus device. This capacity surpasses the 7,300mAh unit found in the standard OnePlus 15, though it falls short of earlier industry rumors that speculated an 8,300mAh battery.
According to OnePlus, this battery is engineered for users who demand long-lasting performance for intensive tasks like gaming, streaming, and productivity. It incorporates Silicon Nanostack technology with 15% silicon content in the anode, which improves energy density. The company claims this technology helps the battery retain at least 80% of its original capacity even after four years of use. Complementing the large battery will be support for 80W fast charging.
Display, Performance, and Camera Capabilities
For the display, the OnePlus 15R will feature a 165Hz refresh rate 1.5K AMOLED panel, identical to the one on the flagship OnePlus 15. The screen can achieve a peak brightness of 1,800 nits and can dim down to just 1 nit for comfortable viewing in dark environments. It also carries the TÜV Rheinland Intelligent Eye Care 5.0 certification, a feature aimed at users who spend extended periods on their devices.
Under the hood, the device will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. OnePlus highlights that this platform was co-developed with Qualcomm over a two-year period, and the 15R will be the first smartphone globally to launch with this processor.
On the camera front, OnePlus has confirmed that the 15R will be capable of recording 4K video at 120 frames per second, a high-end feature previously reserved for its flagship models. While full sensor details are still under wraps, the handset is expected to sport a dual-camera system on the rear.
Launch Event and Expected Pricing
The OnePlus 15R will be introduced at a livestreamed event in Bengaluru on 17 December, where it will be launched alongside the OnePlus Pad Go 2. The company has not yet officially confirmed the price for the Indian market.
However, it may follow the pricing strategy of its predecessor, the OnePlus 13R, which made its India debut at ₹42,999. This positions the OnePlus 15R as a potentially powerful contender in the premium mid-range segment, offering flagship-level specs like the massive battery and next-gen chipset.
