OnePlus 15R Confirms Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Processor for India Launch
OnePlus 15R with Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Coming to India

Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus has made a significant announcement regarding its upcoming OnePlus 15R device for the Indian market. Shortly after confirming the launch date, the company has now revealed the powerful processor that will drive this highly anticipated smartphone.

Powering the Next Generation

The OnePlus 15R will be the first smartphone in India to feature the newly launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor. This announcement marks a departure from OnePlus's traditional approach with its R-series devices, which typically utilized previous year's flagship chipsets.

According to OnePlus, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 delivers impressive performance improvements over its predecessor. The company claims the new processor offers a 36% increase in CPU performance, an 11% boost in GPU performance, and a substantial 46% improvement in AI capabilities compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 found in the OnePlus 13R.

Design and Durability Features

OnePlus has already confirmed that the 15R will be available in two attractive color options: Charcoal Black and Mint Breeze. The smartphone is set to match the premium OnePlus 15 in terms of water and dust resistance.

The device will carry IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings, indicating robust protection against various environmental conditions. This certification means the phone can withstand being submerged in water and endure exposure to cold or hot water jets from any direction for up to 30 minutes.

Expected Specifications and Performance

Earlier reports suggest the OnePlus 15R could be a rebranded version of the OnePlus Ace 6 that recently launched in China. However, the Indian variant appears to have significant differences, particularly in the processor department.

Unlike the Chinese Ace 6 that features the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, the Indian 15R will utilize the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. While comprehensive performance testing awaits hands-on experience, historical patterns suggest this chipset might offer slightly lower performance than the 8 Elite but is expected to power numerous mid-range gaming phones in 2026.

The camera setup is rumored to include a 50MP primary sensor accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide angle lens, with a 16MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.

Display enthusiasts can look forward to a 6.83-inch 1.5K LTPS AMOLED screen with an impressive 165Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth scrolling and enhanced gaming experiences.

Powering the device will be a substantial 7,800mAh battery supported by 120W wired fast charging technology, addressing the needs of heavy users who require extended battery life and quick recharge capabilities.

The OnePlus 15R is expected to launch with multiple RAM and storage configurations, including 12GB/16GB RAM options paired with 256GB/512GB storage variants, priced competitively at ₹55,999 in the Indian market.
