Redmi Turbo 5: A Mid-Range Powerhouse
Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Turbo 5, a feature-rich mid-range smartphone that packs impressive specifications despite rising RAM and flash storage chipset prices. The device scores a 4.5/5 rating in our review, offering solid build quality, a good camera, long battery life, and super fast charging. The only notable downside is the reflective display, which lacks anti-glare coating—a common compromise in this price segment, as only premium devices costing over a lakh typically include such features.
Display and Durability
The Redmi Turbo 5 sports a 6.59-inch 1.5K (2756 x 1268p) OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 3,500 nits peak brightness. It supports Dolby Vision for enhanced HDR content. The device boasts an IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K water-and-dust repellent rating, making it resistant to submersion and high-pressure water jets. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, ensuring durability against scratches and drops.
Performance and Software
Under the hood, the Redmi Turbo 5 is powered by the 4nm-class MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra chipset, paired with an ARM Mali-G720 MC8 GPU. It runs on Android 16-based HyperOS, offering a smooth and customizable user experience. The phone comes in two configurations: 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 4.1 storage. According to Geekbench 6.0 benchmarks, the single-core and multi-core CPU and GPU performance scores are competitive for its class, handling multitasking and gaming with ease.
Camera System
The rear camera setup includes a 50MP primary sensor (1/1.95-inch IMX882, f/1.59 aperture) with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS), paired with an 8MP ultra-wide camera (f/2.2) and an LED flash. It can record 4K videos at 60 frames per second. The front camera is a 20MP sensor (OV20B, f/2.2) capable of 1080p video at 60fps. Camera samples show good detail and color accuracy in various lighting conditions, with OIS ensuring sharp handheld shots.
Battery and Charging
The Redmi Turbo 5 houses a massive 7,540mAh battery, supporting 100W fast charging. It also offers 27W reverse charging, allowing users to charge other devices. This combination ensures all-day battery life and quick top-ups, with the 100W charger capable of filling the battery in under 30 minutes.
Connectivity and Security
The phone includes a USB Type-C port, infrared sensor, dual-SIM slots, stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 7 (2.4GHz + 5GHz + 6GHz), Bluetooth 6.0, NavIC support, and NFC. Security features include an in-display fingerprint sensor, face unlock, and pattern/number lock.
