Massive Heroin Haul in Amritsar Over Seven Days

Security agencies in Amritsar intercepted a staggering 57.8 kg of heroin in just one week, from July 1 to July 7, 2026, according to officials. The recoveries were made by the Counter Intelligence (CI) wing of Punjab Police, the Border Security Force (BSF), the Amritsar Commissionerate Police, and the Amritsar (Rural) Police.

The largest single seizure occurred on July 7, when the CI wing recovered 25 kg of heroin during an operation on Mehta Road. The previous day, July 6, the same agency had seized 13 kg in two separate operations at Kherabad village and the Amritsar-Chabal road, bringing the two-day total to 38 kg.

BSF and Local Police Recoveries

On July 4, the BSF recovered approximately 12 kg of heroin near the international border in Gharinda. That same day, the Amritsar (Rural) Police seized 3.4 kg of heroin after dismantling a drug smuggling network. Earlier, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police had recovered 4.3 kg on July 2 and 1.1 kg on July 1.

Three individuals were arrested in connection with the 25 kg heroin seizure: Bhupinder Singh of Hoshiarpur, Ravi Kumar of Dasuya in Hoshiarpur, and Vishal Singh of Fatahpur. They were produced before a local court, which sent them to three-day police remand for further investigation.

Intensified Crackdown on Cross-Border Smuggling

A Counter Intelligence official stated that the repeated seizures indicate sustained attempts by Pakistan-based smugglers to push narcotics into Punjab via drones and cross-border networks. The official noted that anti-narcotics operations have been intensified, with intelligence-based actions dismantling several smuggling modules in recent days. “Investigations are underway in all cases to identify the intended recipients of the consignments and trace both the forward and backward linkages of the smuggling networks,” the official added.
