Heavy rain in Bengaluru on Tuesday led to severe waterlogging on the Outer Ring Road, causing significant traffic disruptions and inconvenience for commuters. The downpour, which lasted for several hours, inundated key stretches of the road, particularly near Marathahalli and Silk Board junction, two of the city's most congested areas.
Impact on Traffic
The waterlogging resulted in long traffic jams, with vehicles moving at a snail's pace. Many commuters reported being stuck for hours. The Bengaluru Traffic Police issued advisories, urging people to avoid the affected routes and use alternative roads. Several vehicles broke down due to water entering their engines, adding to the chaos.
Authorities Respond
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) deployed teams to pump out water from the flooded areas. However, the sheer volume of rainfall overwhelmed the drainage system. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain in the coming days, raising concerns about further flooding.
Residents in low-lying areas were advised to stay alert. The BBMP has set up control rooms to address complaints related to waterlogging and tree falls. This incident highlights the city's ongoing struggle with urban flooding, especially during the monsoon season.
Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and stay updated on traffic conditions. The authorities are working to restore normalcy as quickly as possible.
