The Bihar State Biodiversity Board organised a state-level function at Sanjay Sabhagar in Aranya Bhawan on Friday to commemorate International Biological Diversity Day. The event was graced by Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Ram Chandra Prasad as the chief guest, while Additional Chief Secretary Anand Kishor attended as the special guest. Board Chairman Bharat Jyoti extended a warm welcome to all attendees.
Key Highlights of the Event
During the programme, the board released a science booklet focused on the conservation of wild animals living outside forests, as part of its public awareness initiative. Additionally, a documentary film on livestock biodiversity was released and screened for the audience, highlighting the importance of preserving genetic diversity in domesticated animals.
Competitions and Awards
Minister Prasad distributed prizes to winners of painting, photography, and quiz competitions that were held at Patna Zoo on May 18 in the lead-up to the event. Addressing the gathering, the minister congratulated the winning students and acknowledged the support of their parents. He emphasised that active community participation is essential for effective biodiversity conservation, urging everyone to contribute to protecting the environment.
Speeches and Commitments
Speaking on the occasion, Additional Chief Secretary Anand Kishor highlighted the significance of biodiversity and outlined the department’s responsibilities in maintaining ecological balance. He stressed the need for committed and focused efforts by all stakeholders to conserve regional ecosystems. Senior officials, including Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Arvinder Singh and Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Surendra Singh, among others, attended the programme.
