Seminar on Official Carrom Laws Held in Chandigarh
The Chandigarh Carrom Association (CCA) organized a seminar on the official laws of carrom at St Stephen’s School, Sector 45. A total of 23 participants from the city attended the session. The primary objective was to impart deep knowledge of the laws to local players and umpires, helping them improve their skills in competitive events and match officiating.
Focus on Official Rules and Regulations
The technical clinic focused strictly on the official rules and regulations adopted by the All-India Carrom Federation (AICF). The event updated local players, technical officials, and umpires on international playing rules and recent tournament amendments. According to Mahesh Sekhri, international carrom umpire and general secretary of the CCA, technical officials must maintain a deep, thorough understanding of the laws of the game.
During his address, Sekhri emphasized the critical role of officials, stating: "Umpires are the backbone of any match and tournament." The theoretical sessions were followed by an interactive question-and-answer segment, allowing participants to clarify complex match situations.
Infrastructure Support and Expert Lectures
The management of St Stephen’s School provided infrastructure support for the clinic. Anup Gupta, national carrom umpire and assistant general secretary of the CCA, also addressed the session. The seminar aimed to enhance the officiating standards and playing skills of carrom enthusiasts in Chandigarh.
