In a tragic incident in Gujarat's Narmada district, a 60-year-old man was killed by a crocodile while grazing his goats on the banks of the Ashwin River. The attack occurred on Friday afternoon in Sindhiyapura village, Tilakwada taluka.
Details of the Incident
Mayyudin Rathod was tending to his goats near the river, unaware that a crocodile was lurking in the water. When he approached the riverbank, the reptile lunged at him and dragged him into the river. The attack was so sudden that nearby villagers could not react in time, and Rathod did not even have a chance to scream for help.
Search and Recovery
After witnessing the attack, villagers immediately alerted the police and forest department. A search operation was launched with the help of locals. Approximately one hour later, Rathod's body was found and retrieved from the river.
Local Concerns
Villagers have expressed fear and frustration, stating that they have repeatedly pleaded with the administration to relocate crocodiles from the river to prevent such attacks. The Narmada River is known to be home to many crocodiles, and locals have been warned to stay away from the water.
The incident highlights the ongoing human-wildlife conflict in the region, where riverside communities face dangers from reptiles. Authorities have been urged to take proactive measures to ensure the safety of residents.
