In a distinctive initiative, the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) organized a labour-harmony community feast on Wednesday to mark the autumn harvest. The event saw scores of agricultural laborers, who were engaged in farming activities on the university campus, join faculty members and students for a shared meal. The gathering was led by Vice-Chancellor K N Singh, who emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions of workers.
Promoting Dignity of Labour
The Vice-Chancellor stated that the feast, named 'Krishi Shramyogi-Samrasta Sahabhoj' (agriculture labour-harmony community feast), was arranged by CUSB's Department of Agriculture as a gesture of goodwill and respect for the laborers. The fundamental purpose behind organizing this meal was to restore the dignity of labor and foster a sense of equality and affectionate care towards the workers.
Singh highlighted that respect for labor within society is an essential prerequisite for achieving the goals of a 'self-reliant India' and a 'Developed India'. He noted that such initiatives help bridge the gap between academic communities and the working class, promoting mutual respect and understanding.
Distinguished Participants
The feast was attended by several notable guests, including Mahant Pratyanand and Vivekananda from the Shankaracharya Math of Bodh Gaya, as well as Indresh Kumar, the convener of the Muslim Rashtriya Manch. University officials also participated in the event, which underscored the spirit of harmony and inclusivity.
This community feast serves as a model for other institutions to follow, demonstrating how academic establishments can engage with local communities and honor the contributions of laborers. By sharing a meal together, the university aimed to break down social barriers and promote a culture of equality and respect.
